You On The Moors Now

You On The Moors Now

by John Kurzynowski

In a 19th-century world where marriage is the only acceptable path, four women refuse proposals from the men who love them. Why do they do it? What will become of them?

For the past two years, Theater Reconstruction Ensemble has been developing You On The Moors Now, a grand theatrical experiment that draws inspiration from the characters and romantic plots of Pride & PrejudiceJane EyreWuthering Heights, and Little Women. We're giving these incredible characters the contemporary theatrical life they deserve. After numerous work-in-progress showings and private workshops with the cast and creative team, we are thrilled to announce that You On The Moors Now will premiere February 13th - 28th, 2015 at HERE Arts Center in Lower Manhattan as part of their SubletSeries@HERE

Theater Reconstruction Ensemble (TRE) is an experimental non-profit theater company dedicated to the on-going development of new works based on classic forms of storytelling and theater making. By playfully engaging with the past, we create new plays and productions that re-shape what has come before. To date, TRE has produced five critically acclaimed productions in New York City, employing dozens of artists and reaching thousands of audience members. Most recently, our critically praised production of Set in the Living Room of a Small Town American Play has been archived in the Billy Rose Theatre Division of the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center.

John Kurzynowski (Director) is the founder and Artistic Director of Theater Reconstruction Ensemble, a New York based collective of experimental theater artists striving to create new work out of classic and canonical traditions. He most recently conceived and directed TRE's Salesmen: a meditation on masculinity and the American REAL! at HERE Arts Center, and has developed and directed each of TRE's productions over the past four seasons. He has also worked extensively with Target Margin Theater and The Talking Band.

Jaclyn Backhaus (Playwright) serves as TRE's Resident Playwright and is a founding member of the company. Her work for TRE includes Set in the Living Room of a Small Town American Play and The Three Seagulls, or MASHAMASHAMASHA! She is also a co-founder of Fresh Ground Pepper, a monthly event series for the development of emerging art, and a member of Clubbed Thumb's FALCONS.

Reed Whitney (Producer) serves as TRE's Producing Director, and has shepherded the ensemble over the past two seasons, resulting in both critical and artistic success and growth for the company. He also serves as the Artistic Coordinator at Ars Nova.
